Nisse Sandström Group
Öppet 01 | Ett
The young (now late) Nisse Sandström and his merry men where really at the forefront of Swedish experimental music in the 1970s, and some would go on starting cultish bands like Fläsket brinner, Mecki Mark Men, and Kebnekajse.
In 2023, Caprice Music teamed up with Swedish free form saxophonist extravaganza, Mats Gustafsson, and assigned him the role of curator for a new series featuring the hidden gems of Swedish free form jazz from the 1960s and 1970s. I was honored to be asked to create the art direction for the series, of which this release was the first.
A classic and clean grid – perhaps reminiscent of more stylish artwork from the 1960s than experimental ditos – that creates a lot of opportunities to play with the colored images and text blocks and create some dynamic.
